Strange sound from one channel on 5040

I've come across an annoying problem with my setup consisting of a pair of 6010B's aswell as one 5040B. The problem is that one of the output channels on my 5040 seems to create a crackling noise whenever I switch input source on my TV (AV to HDMI). This also happens when I turn on/off my AppleTV aswell and when I tried using my PC as an audio source with a different cable, the same problem occurs.

I did also try having one of the speakers connected with a third cable far from any other cables in case of interference, but I can't seem to get rid of this problem.

Same speaker connected to one output channel on the 5040 and it's silent whatever I do.
But if I change it to the other output channel, the noises occurs. Same thing happens If I switch the L/R on the input side.

Is this really normal? My 5040 is like a month old and I bought it brand new.

You should know that input and output channels are linked meaning that left front input goes to left front output ONLY etc. Can you test again and see if it's the input or output side that is causing the noise? And which channel to be specific? Can you post a video clip?

What happens to be exact?

Of course it is not normal, let's debug and find out what happens there. :)

When everything is properly set, meaning the L input is connected to the L output and same thing with the right channel. Then the right speaker is the one making the sound. But if I switch the left channel cable to the right channel output on the TV its the left speaker making the sound. Making any sense?

Ok, so it's clearly coming out of the right channel OUTPUT but we don't yet know where it originates. What if you plug the left channel signal to the right channel INPUT? Can you still hear the noise? I am trying to figure out if it's the source or the subwoofer making the noise.

I thought it was the source but when I used a 3,5mm cable and used my soundcard on my PC I had the same noise coming from the right speaker. No chance it would collect any interference as I had it lying on the floor. I can do some more testing as I get home though..

I did some more digging into this matter and as far as I'm concerned there's something weird with the outputs on my TV. If I have both loudspeakers properly connected to the 5040 and use a single channel cable from the L output on my TV to the L input on the 5040, no noise. If I move the cable to the R input on the 5040, again no noise. But when I use the R output on my TV the noise occurs. So clearly there's something going on with my TV.

I did also test my PC again and it too makes the noise appear when rebooting it. So I think my 5040 is okay, except for the transformer hum but that was normal as you said earlier, right Ilkka?

I'll probably have to get some kind of DAC and use a toslink for it in order to get around this problem. But I just want to know if the pop/crackling sounds may harm the speaker? It is not loud, rather similar to the sound you get when you turn on or off the speakers manually.

Correct, no need to worry about that.

There is no harm to be made.
