Distance to 8351 and distance when mixing in general

Hey together,

my control room is after treatment somehow forgiving and let´s me choose between two positions / distances to my pair of 8351.

Both positions show nearly equally good mearsurement regarding the frequency response.

I can sit to them very close and space them apart around 1,2 - 1,3 meters. This would put me around 0,9 - 1 meter away from them - pretty much the setup as putting them on the meterbridge of a console.

Second position would put them around 1,8 - 1,9 meter apart. I would sit around 1,5 - 1,6 meter away from them. The frequency response is a little better in this position.

These are the only speakers in the control room.

Of course i did a little web search and looked at some pro control rooms - but you see everything :-) you even see speakers really far apart and the listening position very close to them.

The room is new to me as are the speakers - in both positions i start from the scratch to get used to the 8351.

I am spoilt for choice.

Are there any reasons to prefer one position over the other?

Any advantages or disadvantages regarding mixing at these different distances?

I would be very happy to get some feedback from people out there that are more experienced than me!

Thanks in advance!

Matthew J
