level differences between 5.1 and stereo setup

Youngling Viestejä: 2 Liittymispäivä: 5.3.2019 Viimeisimmät viestit

HI,

I'm using five 8320A speakers with a 7360A SW and GLM 3.1.0 control software.

I've run calibrations for both 5.1 surround and 2.1 stereo and saved them to separate groups.

the 5.1 sounds really good, the stereo is terrible. Volume is very low in the 8320As and way too loud from the SW.

I have attached the setup file.

I would like to be able to use the same speakers for both mixing situations.

What am I missing?

thanks,

SCH

Hi SCH,

Sorry to hear about the problems. Have you tried the calibration more than once?

If the 5.1 sounds correct, I would recommend you to do below:

1. Select 5.1 setup
2. Go to "Group"
3. Go to "Duplicate Group"
4. Go to your new Group named "Group_3"
5. Go to Group|Edit Group"
6. Double click your center and surround monitors to turn them to "Off".
7. Now you should have stereo setup based on your 5.1 calibration.

If you would like to find the reason why the calibration was different on the stereo calibration, I would recommend you to perform new calibration, and If the problem still happens even by performing second calibration, please contact us at service@genelec.com and we can investigate this further.

Best Regards,

Hi Jani,

thanks for the reply. I have performed about 4 calibrations now for stereo and 5.1.

I haven't tried your suggestion yet, but upon further inspection and investigation, looking at the levels in the 5.1 mix,

the rear speakers are output at -20db while the front speakers are output -80 to -100 db.

SO I think I am getting consistent results where the front speakers are just far too quiet.

One issue I know that I have is an air vent that is running about 75 -80db in the background.

I will contact support for further assistance.

regards,

SCH
