8351A with a pair of 7370A subwoofers - how to best integrate?
Youngling Viestejä: 12 Liittymispäivä: 12.5.2019 Viimeisimmät viestitHi all,
Does anyone know the best way to integrate a pair of 7370's with a pair of 8351's?
I want to feed the 8351's via digital (AES3) signal (not analogue) and I'd like to use Genelec's room correction software to integrate the pair of subs.
What would be the best way to integrate it all? Will I need to purchase an interface? Is there one recommended?
Looking to have an idea how it would all work before purchasing.
I've demo'ed the 8351's and love them but feel I need subs. And in my room two subs have always been better than single.
Many thanks

Yeah, two subs are usually better, arguably a must with 8351 for short listening distances.
don't know how big the room is, but i'd imagine a pair of 7360s should really be enough. And 7370 is a very heavy product ;)
a pair of 1237s or 1238s w/o subs might be even better. 8351 does have something lofty, but the big ones do sound bigger.
For Computer Interfaces you can use anything with an AES output. You only need one, then go speaker to speaker in any order.
For Usb Yellowtec PUC2 is a fairly cheap option,
if you have a HTPC a PCIe card should be the better option, RME AIO is a good, reliable product.
And you can use SPDIF Ports on cheaper cards with Neutrik NADITBNC-M adapters.
And you'll need a GLM set and a cheap GLM wireless or wired volume controller.
Are you also asking how to integrate them acoustically in a room?
Amongst other things, try stacking them into one big 4way speaker.
And hide the crossover frequency between subs an tops in a notch in the room response if possible.

Thanks for the reply.
Regarding: "Are you also asking how to integrate them acoustically in a room?"
No, I am just asking how to actually hookup the 2 subs to 8351's. Which inputs and outputs of the 7370 subs to connect to the 8351's.
That's the part that confusing me. How to hook it up all together, so that the GLM software can work it's magic.
I'm fine with how to hookup a single sub but two subs confuses me.
As mentioned my source will be digital, AES3.

Jedi Master Viestejä: 296 Liittymispäivä: 22.4.2010 Viimeisimmät viestitYeah, maybe hooking it up is confusingly easy ;)
Each speaker has AES in and out. You go from speaker to speaker anywhichway.
Same for ethernet connection, from GLM adapter to speaker to speaker.
In the GLM Software you assign each speaker a position in the room, done.

Hello,
With Genelec 7300-series subwoofers, it does not matter in what order you connect the AES/EBU cable to the monitors and subwoofers. Connect the AES/EBU cable from your sound source to Right 8351A Digital In, and from Right 8351A Digital Thru to the Left 8351A Digital In, and from Left 8351A Thru to Left 7370A Digital In, and from Left 7370A Out to Right 7370A Digital In.
You can also connect the GLM ethernet cables in any order you wish to. At the moment GLM is not fully automatic with two subwoofer setup when subwoofers are used to reproduce the same channels, and it needs little manual adjusting after the calibrating. From GLM in most cases it is recommended to have both subwoofer to play both AB-channels, and after the calibration it is needed to manually click each subwoofer, and lower the Level (dB) by -4dB in each subwoofer. If the subwoofers sounds too loud, then you can lower the level in both of them by -6dB.
I hope this can get you started, and let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you so much!
This is the clearest description I've seen anywhere and very much appreciated.
Two additional questions I have are regarding GLM software with two subs:
1. Can I limit the frequency range with GLM will apply room EQ? Like limit it to 300 Hz (for example) so that frequency above 300 Hz are not affected by any EQ?
2. Does GLM give both a 'before and after' with it's room EQ? The reason I ask is Dirac Live (for example) will show you the 'before' and then let you set the target, but doesn't re-run the measurements to show you the 'after' to show clearly the result of the room EQ. Of course you can do this separately with REW measurements , but I wanted to know if it was easy to see the 'after' in GLM software, to see the real result of the GLM room EQ, instead of just seeing the 'before' and the 'target' result only.
Many thanks again

1. Yes you can. You can manually adjust the filters from GLM by double clicking the monitor icon on GLM you want to edit, and you will find parameters that you can adjust, or remove the room EQ totally or from certain frequencies.
2. GLM shows the frequency response before and after the calibration, please see video below for many other good information of GLM as well:

Thanks again Jani
But the green line is not the re-measured - it's the target after EQ has been applied to the measured... so in that sense it's no different to Dirac Live and others. You obviously can't have a real 'after' curve without actually re-measuring.
My question is, is there a way to actually re-measure in GLM using the newly created calibration file, to see the 'actual' EQ'ed response... not just the 'predicted' green line..
As mentioned previously, I guess one can use REW but I wanted to ask if it can be done inside the GLM software itself?

Jedi Master Viestejä: 449 Liittymispäivä: 30.3.2017 Viimeisimmät viestitSorry for my misunderstanding. If you want to ensure that the frequency response is the same as the green line, then you would need to do it as example with REW. Unfortunately it is not possible to perform this with GLM.

That’s new information. I thought GLM handled big setups including multiple subs as demonstrated in your immersive brochure. When will you update GLM to handle multiple subs?

Jedi Master Viestejä: 449 Liittymispäivä: 30.3.2017 Viimeisimmät viestitSorry for the confusion. You can find more information of configurating dual subwoofers from PDF file attached, and this will be soon uploaded to new GLM manual as well. GLM is fully compatible with two or more subwoofers, but it is needed to follow the guide on the attachment.
Please let me know if this raises any other question, and I'm glad to help.
