85Hz OR 120Hz Crossover???

Youngling Viestejä: 2 Liittymispäivä: 20.10.2018 Viimeisimmät viestit

Hello everyone!

So my main question is, what do you people have your sub-woofer crossover frequency set to? 85 or 120Hz?

You can either use 85 or 120 which genelec specifies. I don't have a centre channel so redirecting isn't my game, however... I have noticed that my lower mid frequencies sound fuller and more centred when I have my 7060B set to 120Hz. For me this is a good thing as my Focal alphas (main monitors) don't have really good low mids.

Also setting it to 85Hz sounds more dissipated with the sound stage but I don't have that full lower mid frequency present which makes everything,,,,more complete?

I just want to have a general idea of what setting people use :)

Thanks!

Well now, this is a bit odd! I'd never even use 85 Hz for a single sub, it's just way too high, I can locate it. With 8330's (and 8341's currently being evaluated) I'm using 70 Hz as the sub crossover frequency (7350).

Your room/listening position might be cancelling frequencies in the high bass range, in which case the high crossover freq may compensate. Without measurements, there are no right answers and only your opinion matters.

A centre channel speaker can only make things worse for the best listening position, so you're on the right track there...

I win, mine is 65Hz ;)

I usually hide the crossover in a dip in the room response.
