Can I use F subwoofer with 8000 series / mix and match G series and 8000?
Youngling Viestejä: 23 Liittymispäivä: 24.6.2010 Viimeisimmät viestitIs it possible to use F series subwoofer with 8000 series speaker or do I need to invest to the more expensive and professional one?
I just bought pair of 8010As and think about my future investment.
Also if I was to buy G series speakers in future, is it possible to use my existing 8000 series in a 5,1 setup and are there any caveats of doing that?

Yes, you can also use F One or F Two subwoofer with the 8010A's!
You can also mix and match G and 8000-series, but having the same Left,Right you should have the same model. But as example 2x 8010A in front, and 2x G One's in the back would work perfectly.

Youngling Viestejä: 23 Liittymispäivä: 24.6.2010 Viimeisimmät viestitThis is so great to know as I can build up my collection of fantastic Genelec speakers little by little for surround system. I suppose G and 8000 series has no remarkable difference in sensitivity?

Jedi Master Viestejä: 296 Liittymispäivä: 22.4.2010 Viimeisimmät viestithmm, f1 would be a bit weak.
if you only listen at very low volume, the f1 will be enough, but it will clip before 8030s do. so you loose max volume.
imho most stereo home user and half the studios can get by with a sub one step down from genelecs official recomendations for their speakers.
or you go two steps down from the recommendation and buy two subs, should usually be even better than one big one.
If you wanna do 5.1 at some point you'll need a bigger sub.
Actually i'd recomment a digital sub. so you get of room correction for the bass where you need it most.
probably 7350. and get a second one if you expand to surround and find you need more power.

Jedi Master Viestejä: 296 Liittymispäivä: 22.4.2010 Viimeisimmät viestit7350A seems to be the latest.
these a,b,cs are not that important.
Slightly twaked newer versions, you'd never know them apart in a blind test.

RE: Can I use F subwoofer with 8000 series / mix and match G series and 800
Youngling Viestejä: 23 Liittymispäivä: 24.6.2010 Viimeisimmät viestitI just bought one 7350A! It's quite exciting, can't wait for it to arrive.
At the moment I have 8010's as my main speakers, I plan to upgrade the main ones to bigger ones, and maybe move the small ones to rear ones, and get one extra for the center.
I wonder what would be best way to connect the sub to my PC. I currently have a USB interface Apogee One with XLR splitter cable to connect to 8010's. I am happy with that though but the setup isn't very neat.
It would be nice to use the digital connector. However, I would need to have a sound card with a digital AES/EBU and a way to control the volume. I know there is Topping DACs that are quite popular, but I would be afraid of accidentally blasting 0db level, and get kicked out from my Japanese apartment..
By the way, does AES/EBU standard carry 5,1 surround? Is it possible to connect one digital cable to the sub and the five analog speakers to it?

Jedi Master Viestejä: 296 Liittymispäivä: 22.4.2010 Viimeisimmät viestityou don't need AES/EBU, you can use normal spdif for short cable runs.
add a cheap neutrik transrormer to get actual AES.
I don't think you can do 5.1 with just one cable.
still it will be fairly trivial. just contact us again when you need us.
kind regards

Youngling Viestejä: 5 Liittymispäivä: 24.2.2020 Viimeisimmät viestitHey guys,
I have 2x 7350 myself and I want to clarify some issues that were not clear to me when I bought them:
- the 7350 has built-in DSP which is great to get some EQ to reduce strong room resonances, BUT
- the 7350 only supports "decentralized Bass Management" meaning it has no built-in filters for the main monitors. The main monitors need to activate their own High Pass. They work e.g. with other Genelec DSP monitors and GLM.
- the analog inputs/outputs are (in my experience) just simple THRU outlets. The 7350 will NOT send out an analog version of the digital input.
That being said, your cabling might get much more complex and the 7350 might not even be the right subwoofer for your analog monitors. Without any other external DSP, your monitors will run full-range, and you would need to measure to get the Low Pass filter on your 7350 setup correct.
I hope that helps a little. I wish somebody would have told me before buying the 7350.. :) It's a great sub, but not for all kinds of main monitors..

wow, what?
that's quite the truth bomb you drop right there.
that mean's I have given wrong advice on here.
And I was about to buy 2x7350 myself. okay, what now? fuck.

Youngling Viestejä: 5 Liittymispäivä: 24.2.2020 Viimeisimmät viestitThe Genelec 7050 seems to be similar to the 7350. Instead of the digital DSP approach, it has the analog approach with built-in cross over filters. If you need a sub for analog monitors, the 7050 might be a better choice than the 7350.
