My setup is as in photos. Behind the speakers is a home made acoustic panel with 10 cm glass wool.

I first tried to set the speakers directly on Iso-Pods on the surface by the sides of the monitor. But it seems that maybe the shelf somehow started to vibrate with the sound, the bass was really weird and boomy. It might be that the mostly empty drawer underneath becomes like a echo chamber (sorry for amateur expression). 

When I rised the speakers to this level using two books and a piece of foam between, the sound improved drastically. With -2db bass tilt the sound is perfect and crystal clear. But I would also need my books back :)

If I was to make my small mini stands with this height, say from wood, is there anything special I should care about to maybe improve the de-coupling further?

Look at the wall mount options.

Better decoupling and less interference from the table.

Thank you for your reply! That must indeed be a good option. Unfortunately currently I am living in an apartment and can't make such mounting.

Most of the improvements you saw from raising the speakers come from less reflections on the desk surface.

Decoupling is good, likely less important here.

echo chambers in desks indeed aren't a thing. if something shakes, you'd try and glue or bolt or weigh it down until it doesn't.

 

If you go for table stands, you can also look at genelec acessories.

If you do wood, make it a solid block.

Stone would be even better of course. like pretty red bricks.

 

Your problem is, that you'd want to raise them a bit further still. like another 10cm. I think they'll sound even better.

but raising them that much would be too many bricks for what it's worth.

Even +10 cm to that book stack won't be enough. When designing the stands, raise the tweeters all the way up to your ear (eye) level - think top of the display.

​​​​​​​I've made all of (well, both sets) my desk stands from wood, originally for other more conventional speakers, no problems there. The iso-pods should isolate the monitors and even if the stands themselves were acoustically dead, the desk will sing (possibly just more) - this is the least of your concerns, reflections are so much worse.

​​​​​​​Just for reference, the desk stands under my near-field 8330's are a bit over 26 cm high.
