Analog Input signal path on SAM monitors

Youngling Viestejä: 3 Liittymispäivä: 30.1.2020 Viimeisimmät viestit

Hello everyone.

I have a quick question which I think I know the answer to but what clarification.

If using a pair of say 8351A speakers which have both digital and analog inputs, I decide to use the analog inputs. Does this mean the speaker then has a built in ADC to convert the signal to digital before reconverting it to analog for playback?

I ask this because all Genelec speakers only do 24b/192kHz.

I am working DXD(32b/384kHz) and if by going through the analog input of the Genelec down samples my audio I would like to know.

I believe it does in fact do a digital conversion so that the speaker can use it's built in DSP with the room correction software yes?

Thanks!

Yo,

Answer: Yes

Yes. Also they need it to drive volume via amp power rather than input signal strength.

In digital mode, this gives them a stellar noise floor.

Afaik the monitor will accept 192kHz but the max frequencies internally are 48Hkz for the bass and 96Khz for mids and high.

Thanks for the reply.

This was my suspicion as well and just wanted to confirm so thank you.

I really love the 8351a's we have in our studio right now. For our mastering room I'd love to have the 8351s or 8361s and the new W371 woofers for mains. But Im working in DXD a lot so sounds like I can't do that.

Thanks!

you like them for mastering?

I'd rather roll with older 1037Bs or something that still has class a/b amps.

Pure class D is a bit cold for mastering imho.

We actually have a pair of 1237As I think. But they were just too big for our control room. We could likely use them in the new space we are building though. But they are digital as well.

For the mastering I have done now on the 8351a's I don't mind them at all. They do that Genelec thing but are great. I'd really love to try the new woofers with them or the new tweeter 8351b.
