Sound quality with Yamaha wxc50 as digital pre-amp to Genelec 8340

Im a happy owner of Genelec 8340 , Im using the digital output and volume control in Yamaha wxc50 connected to 8340.

Is there any gain in sound quality using the internal volume control in GLM instead of using the digital volume control in the Yamaha ?

Yes, very much so.

The digital output has full quality only at 0db.
The Genelecs use a seperate GLM control signal so they can accept full volume signal and dim the amplifiers inside the speakers.
The tesult is stellar performance and no crackling volume poteniometers ever again.

In theory, yes. Can you hear it? It depends.

Yamaha WXC-50 has a good quality digital volume controller (at least stated by the manufacturer) so there definitely aren't going to be any potentiometer problems.

I am in the same boat but plan to use Raspberry Pi3 and Topping D10s as USB SPIDF convertor. I will be mainly using Qobuz. since my Genelec monitors will not have permanent RJ45 cables connected, how can I use GLM volume control signal? At the moment, I am thinking to use IPAD volume buttons. And by the way, what is potentiometers issue? Sorry to ask this question.

@audientid14: Are you using subwoofer? If yes, how do you split the signal between Genelec and subs?
