GLM4: No more 192/24?

Youngling Viestejä: 24 Liittymispäivä: 6.4.2017 Viimeisimmät viestit

I'm using 8351A since four years. The speakers are connected digitally via AES/EBU. The high-definition music material is 48/24, 96/24 and 192/24 (kHz, bits). Last week I used GLM4 for the first time making a new calibration after a firmware update of the GLM network adaptor. Today I observed that 192/24 material is no more played: it's silent and the speakers are flashing red.

Question: Could it be that 192kHz/24Bit is no more supported?

Forget my cry for help. The problem is solved after re-assembly of the digital output card of the music server. Neither the speakers not GLM were affected.

Sorry for posting to the forum too early .

Sidenote,
we have the suspicion that current Genelecs only do 96khz internally.

The 8351A accepts digital input with a word length of 16 - 24 bits and a sample rate of 32 to 192 kHz. At the input section the signal will be converted to 24bit/96kHz for the tweeter and 24bit/48kHz for the midrange and woofer.

Yes.
From your post i could not tell if you think that it really plays 192kHz, you might be disappointed if it doesn't.
A lot of studio people don't think there is much to gain from going from 96 to 192kHz, some equipment might even performe worse at very high frequencies.

Please look here about my experiences using the speakers' internal resampler in particular if 88.2kHz/24bit input is concerned:

I know that 192/24 is internally resampled to 96/24 and 48/24. But these resamplings are more or less "trivial". I didn't hear any artifacts, so I decided to leave 192/24 material as it is.

And I had a look at your post: You're doing offline resampling. Very cool!
And you know that 48 - 96 - 192kHz work togehther well.

When I looked at dithering and resampling 10 years ago Samplidude/Sequoia was the best DAW for that.
This might have changed, by now we probably have a few good options.
