8351B connecting via AES and using GLM

Youngling Viestejä: 2 Liittymispäivä: 16.11.2021 Viimeisimmät viestit

Hi I am new here and going to order 8351B with GLM kit, though I have a few questions that seem not covered clearly in the manual regarding connecting AES and dip switches/trim pot

I plan to connect the monitors to my RME UFX+ interface via UFX+ AES out and calibrate the monitors with Genelec GLM.

For the connection above

1. Is the Input Trim pot only affecting analog connection? so if I connect via AES. The trim pot will have no effect?

2. If I want to pad the 8351B signal, (probably -30dB since I will be using them in a rather small room). I should put the Level -10 and -20dB dipswitch both to ON position to pad the input/output signal for digital connection?

3. Is the room correction part of the dip switches affect digital connection? Or I can just leave them all in OFF position and let GLM take care of everything?. But the 8351B going to place behind the monitor, so I may want to use the treble tilt dip switch since GLM is correction is cut only?

4. If I plan to calibrate them once without multiple preset, should I set both monitor's dip switch "Stored" to ON position all the time? So the calibration will store in the monitors in the "set it and forget it" fashion without needing to pull up GLM software every time I use the 8351B?

5. Does the AES cable connection has to be sequenced? let's say I set the Left speaker to "A" and Right Speaker to "B" via dip switch, can the AES cable chain looks like "UFX+ AES out > B speaker > A speaker or UFX+ AES out to A speaker > B speaker or both connection chain works as A speaker Left channel, B speaker Right channel.

Sorry for the lengthy first post and if these questions were already covered in other similar topics.

Great day darkinners,

I can't answer all your questions, but atleast the ones refering to the useage of GLM:

-GLM will take care of all individual settings like level, grouplevel, delay (time of flight), groupdelay, filters, etc.

So you can leave all dipswitches to the off position.

-If you don't want to have GLM software active or having some networkcables around, you can push the GLM settings to each monitor & subs via the Store dipswitch, just place it into the ON position and select "store to loudspeakers" under the GLM GroupPreset menu.

Enjoy !
