8351 VS 8260

Hello to all,
I am considering 8351 and 8260 models;
I have a quite large room (10X6 meters, 3m ceiling height) and the sitting position is 3,5 m in front of the speakers.
I really love the 8351 but I am wondering if for a such large room 8351 will have enough SPL and will not go systematically into red light.
Thanks for your support
Pam

Hi,

I could throw some educated guesses but the only definitive answer can be had by demoing a pair in your room with the SPL you typically play, anything other is just guessing. Where are you located? Do you have a local dealer/distributor?

Using a subwoofer (for example 7370A or 7271A) with those monitors with an 85 Hz to 100 Hz crossover will raise the maximum SPL capability by more than 5 dB when playing typical modern music material.

Hi again
Thanks for your reply
I am located in Paris, France.
Unfortunately 8351 are avalable on order. Difficult to run any demo at home.
What would be your prefered configuration :
- 8260
or
- 8351 + 7360A (I have to esclude 7370A far too big for me )

I will ask about the demo possibility from our sales manager, I will let you know soon.

Unfortunately 7360A is too small subwoofer model for the 8351A, it will not have sufficient maximum SPL capability. The minimum subwoofer model is 7370A, especially in a large room as yours.

I am operating the 8351 also in a quite larger room, but in a stereo triangle of 1,6m.
In 98% volume level is totally sufficient for me (but I am not someone who needs "live" sound levels of e.g. a rock concert. :)
Usually the standard studio level of 85 dB is "loud" enough, often already to loud for me.

Only in "party mode" with bass heavy music I brought the speakers to flash red. ;)
But I also forgot to bypass autocal and missed therefore the extra help of the room gain in the bass level.
Next party I will try it that way and see if this is better.

So my opinion is to try the 8351 first and see if you really need the subwoofer and if you are not satisfied try the 8260.
