Thank you for all the years of Community discussions and activity!

The time has come for us to retire the community forums, but we will keep everything available for reading. There is a lot of valuable content written over the years, and you'll be able to access all of that. However, no new posts can be written, or old posts modified.

If you have questions, we recommend you use the Support function on the bottom right corner to contact our Customer Support directly.

Alternatively, if you wish to engage in a community discussion with other people, there are many active forums available. There is also an active, fan managed GENELEC COMMUNITY in Facebook, and many Genelec employees are active in the discussions there.

We are sorry for any possible inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope to hear from you through the other channels mentioned above.

8351 with analog sub time align.

What's the best way to connect a pair of 8351 AES/EBU to an analog subwoofer.
Options:
1. Analog out of soundcard to subwoofer. Digital to 8351's. I don't know how to set the time alignment in the 8351's or if they can figure it out on their own using their own analog out that you connect for phase alignment.

The instructions below out of the user manual appear to not use any time alignment, and only use the phase controls on the sub. (I'm not using a genelec sub, I'm using a JL F112)

Below is copied directly out of the user manual for the 8351:
Using the 7000 Series Analog Subwoofers
with SAM Monitors
Please follow the steps below to integrate an analog subwoofer
into a system of SAM monitors:
7
•  Connect cables carrying analog audio to the 7000 Series
analogue subwoofer first.
•  Connect the subwoofer outputs to the analog inputs of the
SAM monitors.
•  Connect the GLM Control Network to the monitors.
•  Make a System Setup in GLM. It will consist of only
monitors as this is all the network can see, so suitable
Rapid Cabling Presets are “Stereo Pair (Analog)” and “5.0
Surround System (Analog)”.
•  Run AutoCal and review the results to check for large dips
at or above 85 Hz. Move the monitors and repeat AutoCal if
there is a problem.
•  Press “Finish”, then in the Main Page select “Menu | Store
Acoustic Settings to All Online Monitors” and close GLM.
•  For each SAM monitor, turn it off, select “Stored” on the
back of each monitor to activate the internal Acoustic
Settings, and then turn it on again.
•  To set the phase control on the subwoofer, connect the
Center channel output of the subwoofer to the monitor to be
used to align phase.
•  Follow the instructions in the subwoofer user manual for
setting phase and level.

-------------------

The instructions are unclear to me: " For each SAM monitor, turn it off, select “Stored” on the
back of each monitor to activate the internal Acoustic
Settings, and then turn it on again."

what is "it"

Note: the separate GLM 2.0 user manual doesn't accurately describe the phase correction instructions of connecting a separate analog wire as the actual software itself when used does.

"it" is the SAM monitor...

These instructions are for using a 7000 non SAM Genelec sub but it is for connecting analog signals to both sub and SAM speakers...

You are going to have to use calibration software like REW to set phase and what filters the JL has, to be honest it is going to be a dog's breakfast, you'd be far better off selling the JL and getting a 7370. Most of the benefits of SAM are in the LF, and you wont have any way of dealing with these issues with the JL... The 8351's by themselves would be a better solution...

I guess I'll just use dirac live and analog outs.
