two G3 in channel vs. one G4???

Hi

Just curios, is there any one who've had an opportunity to listen stereo setup with four active speakers (2+2). As far as I know having to 5 inch woofers in parallel would results in as if you have 8 inch one (for low range). Does it fair for active speakers? I am wondering how it would affect stereo performance when four G3 (8030) speakers instead of two G4 (8040) or even G5 (8050)?

Any comments welcome)

Well I never considered using two speakers for one channel, but here is a little what I found out when testing some Genelecs. I use my Genelecs on 2.0 configuration quite a lot. I never did test the G3 or 8030 size thought. My selection was between 8040 and 8050 and finally chose 8250 due the DSP. As I live in concrete apartment and the placement of the speakers is next the walls close to the corner. I remember that the main difference I found out with 8040 vs 8050 was not how the bass sounded, but how the sound was when you were listening it off from the optimal listening position. At optimal listening position the difference between two was hard to notice (8040 vs 8050). But once you moved off from that listening position the bigger speaker sounded better, I suppose that is the difference between 3/4 inch vs 1 inch tweeter. So I ended up with 8250's. The final tweaking was done with GLM, I remember that there were 2 bass spikes up to 16 db, so bigger the woofer the bigger the possible problem in not so optimal room and placement of the speakers :).

I wrote a small post to these forums when I had my set up done, here is the link if you are interested:

Hi Kirill,

It is not advised to have two or more speakers per channel as it will result in severe comb filtering effect. Only one monitor per channel can be used.

My condo isn't cocrite unfortunately. Also price make the difference to my family budget too. Also I am listening my G3 at approximately 2.5 m distance. Anyway thank you for comment. May I ask what DAC and preamp do use in your stereo?
