Hi, I read often in this Forum that is recommended top place the speakers very close to the front wall.

I am using 8351a the room is 19x 10 FT high ceilings
8FTx 2FT 4inch owen corning in the front corners and also 4inches Owen Corning 703 in the lower half of the front wall,

some panels of OC 703 in the sides for first reflection,

A cloud 6 inches closer to the roof

So I put the 8351s maybe 5 inches away from the front wall, was not bad but that force me to move my listening position closer to the front wall as well, otherwise if you want to keep the listening position at 38% the speakers would mostly always kind of far and in most cases like mine not even possible to make a perfect triangle .... that is something that confuse me a bit with the Genelec guidelines..

then moving the speakers I found a better response specially the null in the left speaker(lowend was much, much better) but wish the right speakers was also the same :? anywayI still having some nulls in the low end +/- 60hz -95hz in the right speaker...

now at the 38% i found a more even response between the left and right speaker, but a bigger null at the left speaker and right very similar like the when the speakers were closer to the front wall..just the lEft speaker was much better...

So the question is, it is imperative to be closer to the 38% of the room length as listening position?

I know I can not be at the 50% or 25% not the speakers or the listening position.

Any tips how I can get ride or minimize those nulls at around 90hz?
So where should be the listening position really?

also how close the monitors have to be?
some people say 67 inches is the best, I find that too wide, maybe also for my room....any suggestions?

My suggestion is to install Room EQ Wizzard, get a cheap Behringer ECM8000 and run RTA. Put the speakers close to the front wall and move with the mic while observing the RTA to find the best listening position in your room. Best speaker position will most probably be as close to the front wall as possible, while teh best listening position not neccessarily. While you can easily calculate your modal frequencies, the best thing is to try to move around a bit and mark down a position with the least significant nulls. I wouldn't worry much about 38% and rather empirically try out the situation in your particular room. When you find the most optimal position, mark it down. After that try to move the speakers around slightly...put them more apart/closer together, to find the most optimal position. Even few cenitmeters can make pretty drastic effect on the overall performance of your sound system.

Did you play around measuring speaker heights?

Go download the Monitor Setup Guide...

You will see on page 20, the closest recommended listening distance is 50cm... that is very close and may or may not suit you. The guide has great information on monitor setup along with an explanation of why...

One of the great benefits of GLM over REW is speed. What i recommend all new users do is put aside a few hours and be prepared to move things and experiment, focus only on the red trace (in-room) and try and minimise large cancellations. I have setup hundreds of systems and demonstrations of SAM systems over the years and time and time again, monitor height is critical and i spend time usually starting with the monitor above ear height. In many occasions i will simply sit the monitor on top of their empty cardboard boxes on the desktop, don't focus too much on the small things, in the initial stages we are focusing on quick measurements to get a feel for how the monitor/room/listening position are interacting....

As you have already done, once you measure a few locations and get a feel for where things are going to work, then spend time with careful monitor placement... The density of your walls will define the size of the reflection, the more dense, the more you will have to work...

REW will allow you to look deeper into the measurements by looking at RT and waterfall plots, and it will be great for you if you will be adding additional treatment to your room, but to be honest, to setup your monitors in your room, GLM will do the job much quicker...
