Alternatively, if you wish to engage in a community discussion with other people, there are many active forums available. There is also an active, fan managed GENELEC COMMUNITY in Facebook, and many Genelec employees are active in the discussions there.

8010A coil whine while turned off

Asking for a friend:
I've noticed that when my two 8010A speakers are turned OFF, both emit a clear coil whine, which can be heard up to 3 meters away from the speakers. The sound is obviously coming from the power source, and stops when the speaker is turned on. I also have two 8020's and three 8030's in the same setup, and they don't suffer from the same problem. Is it normal for the coil whine to be so loud when they are turned OFF, but still plugged in to the wall socket?

Hi,

There is some amount of coil whine with the 8010 and 4010 models due to the design but 3 meters sounds awfully far, typically you need to place your ear right next to the back panel to be able to hear it. You might want to contact your local distributor and let them check them to be sure they are not defected.
