Using a 5040a sub turns my signal mono

Hi so I just got some second hand 6010a's and a 5040a sub to go with it. For the last couple of days while waiting for a cable I've been using them with a 3.5mm to RCA on the sub with no issues, can pan using software no problem.

However today I tried going from my desk (tac matchless) which is female xlr to rca. I've soldered my pins so it's working correctly but as soon as I go desk to sub then speakers the signal goes mono. Can't pan at all. If I take the sub out of the equation and go straight to the 6010's it works sweet as. I've got some ns10's which will pan just fine so I'm assuming the issue is at the sub. Just wondering if anyone could help?

It's a pretty simple setup I'd kind of hoped it'd just work :)

Thanks :)

Hi,

To which connectors on the sub you have connected your input and output cables? The subwoofer has 5.1 channels in and 5 channels out.

Left and right xlr main outputs on the desk to left and right front rca inputs on the sub. Then left right front outputs on the sub to the speakers. It's such a simple setup hence my confusion.

I'm going to try making up a cable that'll go xlr to 3.5mm and see if that works

Sadly xlr to 3.5mm doesn't work either :(

Could it be how the cables are wired? My desk seems to use pins 2 & 3 on the xlr. Pin 2 going to the tip on the rca I've taken pin 1 out as I get no sound at all that way

Looking at my Tac Matchless manual the XLR outputs are:

Pin 1: Screen
Pin 2: Hot (positive phase)
Pin 3: Negative Phase

Don't know if that helps?

Thanks

Hi,

This is the correct method for wiring: http://www.mediacollege.com/audio/conne ... rca-1.html

Yeah that's how my cables are wired :(

At the moment I've made a rather hacked solution of using a 1/4" Jack to the 3.5mm socket taken from an Aux Send which isn't ideal but it does give me a stereo solution.

I just can't think why when I come from the desk XLR's it's getting summed to a mono signal. The NS10's work just fine using a cable like in the link you sent.

Thanks for your help :)
