8020 or 8030 for 7040 subwoofer?

Hi, can you please advise which pair of monitors are better suited for the 7040 subwoofer in the room sized 2.9m x 3.7m x 2.5m = 26.8 m3? I have two options - 8020 and 8030. All Genelec specs and product guides recommend 8020 with 7040. I have an option to get a pair of 8030 with the 7040 subwoofer from the distributor for a good price, but am a little concerned that the 8030's will be too powerful for the 7040 subwoofer, especially for that small room. I also noted in the Genelec product guide that 8020 are suitable for room volume up to 65 m3, and 8030 for up to 75 m3 (see uploaded attachment). From this prospective, 8020 seem to be totally fine for my room, even though they are so small in size.

Basically, the question is what is the basis of recommending 7040/8020 combination? It seems that 7040/8020 are better balanced together (6.5" sub driver and 4" woofer on monitors) and hence produce more even sound, while 7040/8030 combination may be a little bass light due to smaller subwoofer combined with larger monitors (6.5" sub driver and 5" woofers on monitors - almost the same size!) - is this assumption correct?

My basic plan is to get a pair of 8020's and run them with 7040 subwoofer, unless you advise me that 8030 will be a better option for sound quality without affecting low/mig-high balance.

Thanks.

Hi, your assumption is correct. We recommend 7040 subwoofer 8010 and 8020 monitors. For 8030 we recommend larger 7050 model.

Hi,

If I want to use a heterogeneous speaker setup which consists of 3x 8030 in front and 2x 8020 at back (as a home theater), which one is the suggested subwoofer, 7050 or 7060? I currently have a fairly small living room, but that can change in the future.

Thanks.

Hello Hege,

7060 is our recommended subwoofer for that system. Multichannel system requires more LF output, therefore need for a more capable subwoofer.
