Placement near a heater

Youngling Viestejä: 3 Liittymispäivä: 16.1.2014 Viimeisimmät viestit
Hello,
I own 8040.
I would like to know if it could be a problem to place them close to a heater.
Water inside the heater is about 60-65°C during winter. The speaker cabinet temperature will increase since it will receive radiant heat, and I suppose air is dryer at that place.
Shall I worry about that (in what material is the speaker membrane for instance ?) ?
I find nothing in the documentation.

Hello,

I can see 8030 model in the picture. :) Our speakers are meant to be used on typical room conditions which means +15 - +35 deg C temperature and 20 - 80 % humidity. It is not recommended that the speaker is placed right next or especially above a heater because the temperature can be too high there. You should allow at least 0.5 meter distance between the speaker and the heater.

Thank you for your answer.
Out of curiosity and as well because I am led sometimes to use Genelec speakers on stage in inhabitual conditions, I would like to know what are specifically the technical reason(s) why the temperature could damage the speaker.
Would you be kind to enumerate what you could think about ?
Thank you

Hi,

This is a copy/paste from our environmental specification document. Our speakers are sophisticated electro-acoustical devices and need to operated within certain temperature and humidity limits.

Cooling
The products heat up during operation and also in the idle state. It is essential to ensure sufficient cooling. Pay attention to the following:

• Natural convection cooling requires that there is minimum clearance to allow air to move freely around the product and supply of cool air. Cool air can be provided by air conditioning or exchange of air from an outside source (ventilation).
• Forced air cooling has different minimum clearance requirements but supply of cool air and sufficient is essential also in the case of forced air cooling.
• The minimum clearance is specified for each product in its Operating Manual.
• Air circulation is sufficient when the product ambient temperature remains stable and within the specification during operation at all times.

I also want the same model. However, I'm looking for the best electric heater with window. I have read some reviews of it. You can also check . What do you suggest me?

Too high a temperature will age the speaker quicker.

Capacitors fall apart quicker, maybe even the drivers wear out quicker if the rubber that holds them in place becomes considerably softer.

Bad idea with speakers notorious for lasting a lifetime.

And heat disippation gets very impeded. heat transfer happens at the cube of the temperature differential.

Cut the temperature difference in half and you'll end up with an 8th of the heat transfer.
