8050's are introducing some noise

Youngling Viestejä: 2 Liittymispäivä: 4.9.2015 Viimeisimmät viestit
Hi!
I have Genelec 8050's which are audibly making noise (something like pink or white noise). The noise is just audible from about 1,5 metres.
The signal is coming through 7070A subwoofer. Behind sub in the signal chain is avid c24 controller and behind that is Avid HD i/o converters. Could the noise be coming from the D/A conversion (quantization distortion)?

i have that as well on my 8240s but it tends to go away if i move fader on GLM soft where it was a fault in old GLM swell a rep told me to just deal with it and not have fader at position where noise was, if only vlm fader did not get stuck all the time tho -_-

Hi,

All active speakers produce some amount of background noise, that is typical for all devices having amplifiers built inside them. Also, if devices earlier in the signal chain are producing noise, speakers will amplify and reproduce it. Can you check if the noise goes away when you unplug the signal cables from the speakers?

Hello,

8240s are little bit different due to their digital signal processing. There is no fault in the GLM, reps suggestion to lower the GLM level attenuates the speakers digital gain which will therefore also attenuate the background noise.

Yes there is no noise, when I unplug the signal to 8050's. So it might be coming from the c24 controller... Can I do anything to make sure that 8050's are not amplifying the noise, or is replacing the c24 with another monitor controller the only answer?

Hi,

Speakers are meant to amplify the signal, they won't separate between music or noise. If your source device is noisy, unfortunately there is nothing else to do than replace it with a better one.

But I just checked the specifications for the Avid C24 and it seems to be a high quality device. Are you 100% certain it is not a setup issue?
