8250 and subwoofer

) ).My question refers to the placement of the subwoofer. Does it make sense to put it close to the listening position? I know that the usual recommendation is off-center between the front speakers, but what's the problem with positioning it close to the listener? Does this excite modes which otherwise would remain "calm", i.e. non-problematic ?
