Griffin has just released the Powermate Bluetooth

I'd love to have a wireless solution for volume control and was wondering if GLM would support it, or perhaps will at some point?

Thanks,
Johnny

Hi,

It's been two weeks; is there any word on this?

Thanks,
Johnny

I would also love support for the Bluetooth Powermate... I would also like to have full support of the regular Powermate so that I can use all of the features (hold down and scroll left/right to eg. switch between calibrations) Better support for other USB controllers would also be great. The Shuttlexpress doesn't really work well with GLM.

By the way Johnnny. Genelec is on vacation so they don't answer any posts.

My apologies, I didn't know
Do you happen to know when they'll be returning?

Hi all,

There are no current plans to support Powermate Bluetooth but when it comes to wireless volume control, you will be pleasantly surprised what the future versions of GLM will offer. :) Unfortunately that is all I am able to tell you right now.

Hi Ilkka,

Thank you for your response!
I am actually more pleased with that answer than I would've been with support for the Bluetooth Powermate!
I am very excited to see what the future of GLM holds :D

P.S. I hope you guys are testing on the upcoming OS X 10.10 Yosemite Beta build :P

Hello, Johnny,

Did you try to use the Griffin powermate bluetooth to control the GLM? Is it work?

Thanks.

Wow Ikka.

Great news hearing you are planning to innovate the GLM system!

About software/hardware controlling: I just want to point out that physical controllers are necessary. I have programmed an iPhone app to change volume and calibrations but it does not replace a physical controller (or 3).

But on the other hand deeper integration with i.e. iOS 8 or IFTTT would be sweet as well.

So I am trying to say that both hardware and software is needed! :)

Thank you,
Chakshu

I am quite exited hearing those news. The system clearly lacks some good alternatives for volume control.

Ikka, you wrote, that there are no more details for the moment, that's fine. However, can you elaborate on the time frame? A couple of weeks? A couple of months? More than 6 months?
(The background of my question: I think of building my own solution, remote controlling GML on the headless Mac, and I will wait, if a solution will be available within a reasonable time)

Oh, and let me add one more thing: for home use, it would be fine to have a simple solution to switch between one specific AES and one analog profile easily (and remotely).

Hi Chakshu,
that's exactly what i'm looking for, since i also control iTunes using my iPhone.
How did you do this? Is the app available on the appstore?
Greetings from Germany,
Markus

Hey Markus

The easiest way would be to set keyboard shortcuts with "GLM auto link" and then use an app to send that keyboard shortcut to the computer running "GLM" and "GLM auto link". "Hipporemote" is pretty sweat.

For physical volume control sadly Powermate is the only thing that is good enough but the software from Genelec doesn't allow you to do anything smart with it :(. A second USB controller like e.g. ShuttlXpress could give you physical buttons to change calibration, switch between analog/digital etc. but is AWFUL for changing volume with Genelecs software.

Thtat's it. Far from perfect but it works

Re: Powermate Bluetooth

Padawan Viestejä: 43 Liittymispäivä: 10.2.2014 Viimeisimmät viestit
And to to be more specific… I create custom interfaces in "Hipporemote" (iOS) that all correspond to an application (and automagically switches OS X active application when activated. All the profiles contain a panel with global shortcuts for GLM with the following keystrokes attached:

GLM volume up (CMD+SHIFT+rightarrow)
GLM volume down (CMD+SHIFT+leftarrow)

GLM calibration 1 (CMD+SHIFT+1)
GLM calibration 2 (CMD+SHIFT+1)
GLM calibration 3 (CMD+SHIFT+1)
GLM calibration 4 (CMD+SHIFT+1)
GLM calibration 5 (CMD+SHIFT+1)

One or more of these calibrations could be analog if you are using something like an lp or whatever.

The problem with this setup is that since Genelecs software isn't very well made you will have to be light on the touch when chaining volume because it tends to lag 1-2 seconds behind you button press. (this is Genelecs problem and not "Hipporemotes" because other short cuts are super snappy)

I would estimate setting this up would take minimum 1 hour but you could probably spend more like 5hours + like me if you try to make it perfect or maybe you get looked in to a room with nothing else to do, you know.
