New Installation Using All AIC25's

In our current home we are using three HT208B's for R-C-L and two AIW25's for rear speakers along with a 3rd party subwoofer. It sounds great. The room is 18' x 30'.

We are building a new home and our plan is to utilize seven in-ceiling AIC25's plus a Genelec subwoofer. The idea is to eliminate front-facing speakers for cosmetic reasons. This room will be a little larger at 23' x 30'.

Obviously this is a compromise. My question is how much audio quality am I giving away for appearance sake? Am I going to be hugely disappointed in comparison with the three HT208B's I am accustomed to? My concern is for listening to music (mostly jazz) as well as for surround.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi,

I would say that is a quite large compromise. Acoustic performance wise AIC25 and AIW25 are similar to the HT205 which is two model size smaller speaker compared to HT208. Another issue with in-ceiling installation is that you are typically sitting off axis to the speakers instead of on axis which will affect the frequency response flatness.

Would it be possible to install in-wall speakers to the front wall? AIW26 would work there nicely and the difference to HT208 would be much smaller.
