Using IKmultimedia ARC2 on my 8040s?

Is it advisable to use ARC system instead of GLM for none DSP series?
I have owned a pair of 8040s since 2005.I'm thinking of changing them to 8240s.these days i'm using ARC2 system for calibrating my 8040s,but i don't know if ARC2 is working correct on my 8040's.
I was wondering if you'd mined telling me what to do.

Hi,

Unfortunately I do not have experience with IKmultimedia ARC2 system. It seems to be based on Audyssey MultiEQ XT32 which is used in many AV-receivers and such devices. What is your impression on the sound? Does the sound quality improve after the calibration?

hi,
thanks for replying.
it(ARC) flattens my speakers but also change the character of my 8040.thats why i'm looking for 8240 :)
i wish Autocal had more notch filters...

I would recommend getting room eq wizard(free), fuzz measure, spectra foo, smaart...or any other available measuring software to do various post adjustment measurements. It will make your decisions easier and hopefully confirm what you hear when you make acoustic or electronic changes. I found arc and glm to be lacking details for post calibration analysis. With dedicated measurement tools Its great to zoom into specific frequencies, or look at waterfalls for time decays, and look at phase behaviors and so on. I wish glm gave you that info or at least better graphs w zooms.

Also, for what its worth (imho) the GLM measurements and compensations are simply way way better ( in measurement and to the ear) than arc2. Lastly, the glm measurements are for ruler flat response. The way I like my studio control room speakers (and find most commercial room to be acoustically setup ) is they have a gentle high freq roll off or slope down. My 8260a sound more musical and long day inspiring with their glm high freq filter (lo pass) in the glm at 4k set at -3db! Best, Dan
