GLM 1.4.3. problem
Youngling Viestejä: 9 Liittymispäivä: 4.1.2013 Viimeisimmät viestitI've installed a fresh pair of 8240A speakers in my home studio. Problem is with autocalibration, which I can't get to work. It says "Optimize acoustical settings" but nothing seems to be happening.
I'll note that my speakers came without the Network cables, and that I've purchased corresonding "ethernet cables" elsewhere, but I've now tried several with no change ...
Another note: I'm using analog connections to my speakers for now, as I haven't gotten my adapters from spdif (in my MR-816 sound card) to AES/EBU yet. But that's also not supposed to be a problem, right?
I'd be grateful if you could help me sort this out. Probably I've simply overlooked something obvious, but please do set me straight!
best,
Petter

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Jedi Master Viestejä: 340 Liittymispäivä: 6.4.2009 Viimeisimmät viestitI assume that when you start GLM, the system identifies 2 speakers on the network, so that should rule out the network cables...
So it is going to be either your software install or hardware, is this your first 8200 series install? Are you running MAC or PC? Is the GLM kit new, does it have the interface with the Genelec sound card or is it an older interface?

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Youngling Viestejä: 9 Liittymispäivä: 4.1.2013 Viimeisimmät viestitI'm running a PC with Windows 7 (64 bit). This is indeed my first 8200 install, and the kit is newly bought, says Autocal GLM Network interface 8200-426B on the small black box and also GLM and SE. Guess the black box is the interface.
Ok, so I could basically remove the audio cables completely and it would make no difference. Cool. Makes me think I should maybe try to calibrate with my laptop instead - this is also a PC with win 7 (but 32 bit) but who knows ... I'll try this now.
Oh well ... again I get the left right speakers identified ok but now the next step aborts even earlier than before and I get an error message saying "soundcard initilizing process failed. Please check properties of Sounds and Audio Devices from Control Panel."
Like most DAW users (I think?), I generally disable the computer's internal sound card. This way, the Computer always know where to run sounds from, irrespective of what source I use (pro tools or spotify etc). I've done this with both of my Computers, so if the GLM somehow depends on the computer's internal sound card then maybe this is the problem?? --- I'll try this now.
No dice. Anyway: both my Computers claim that they install the device and tell me that the "device is now ready to use" but neither shows the genelec sound card in the control panel. Should the GLM interface be listed?

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Jedi Master Viestejä: 340 Liittymispäivä: 6.4.2009 Viimeisimmät viestitI don't have any SE GLM kits on hand to confirm, but my interface box is a 8200-416B, we'll need some one to confirm what a 8200-426B is..

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Jedi Master Viestejä: 340 Liittymispäivä: 6.4.2009 Viimeisimmät viestitOne other thing to check, are you running GLM or GLM SE???
SE is for only 7261/8130 systems.

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Yoda Viestejä: 2564 Liittymispäivä: 23.3.2009 Viimeisimmät viestitThere is no GLM interface with 8200-426B code. Correct code is 8200-416B.
GLM doesn't need or use your computer's internal sounds card. GLM uses its own sound card which is built inside the interface box. You don't see it in Windows audio devices because it's only activated during the AutoCal measurement.

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Youngling Viestejä: 9 Liittymispäivä: 4.1.2013 Viimeisimmät viestitAnyway: I'll try to reinstall everything once more, but is there something else I should try still before returning the product and asking for a new GLM box? (I'm going to visit Soitin Laine Pro Audio (Helsinki) where I bought my 8240's and the GLM next week.)

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Yoda Viestejä: 2564 Liittymispäivä: 23.3.2009 Viimeisimmät viestitA precision: when I run the RAPID CABLING WIZARD, my speaker do emit their bursts of white noise and blink their lights BUT after this they turn YELLOW not green. Does this suggest something?
This is normal behaviour. They should be yellow at this stage.
EDIT: I've now tried to use the computer's internal sound card instead of the genelec card but still no dice ...?
Petter
I wouldn't recommend using computer's internal sound card. Typically it introduces more problems.
I would contact the dealer and ask to test another GLM interface. You could also test your interface at the store if they have a system running there.

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Youngling Viestejä: 9 Liittymispäivä: 4.1.2013 Viimeisimmät viestitThere's a demo at my retailer's here in Helsinki, so I guess I'll take my questions to them. Thanks for responses so far!

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Youngling Viestejä: 9 Liittymispäivä: 4.1.2013 Viimeisimmät viestit1) I would quite prefer to do the calibration from my studio pc and be able to redo it any time here ... is there something I could try still?
2) Alternatively, I could settle for importing the files from the other computer, then connect the GLM interface to PC with usb, then interface through RJ45 to speaker A, onwards through RJ45 to speaker B. And feed the audio through AES/EBU (from s/pdif in my Streinberg MR816 through Neutrik converter to AES to speaker A to speaker B). But I only get red blinking lights on both speakers when the interface is activated.
3) If neither of those works, I could try with storing the settings in the speakers and using them without having the interface in the loop at all. This approach leaves both speakers showing green lights ... but I still get no audio.
Anyway: I'd much prefer it if I could use the GLM on the big PC for the calibration process etc ... is there some tweak I should experiment with?

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Yoda Viestejä: 2564 Liittymispäivä: 23.3.2009 Viimeisimmät viestitSince it is very difficult and time-consuming for both of us to try to debug your system, I recommend that since you apparently live in Helsinki, I would ask one of our customer support engineers to visit you and look at the system. Would this be ok with you? Could you PM me your contact details?

Re: GLM 1.4.3. problem
Youngling Viestejä: 1 Liittymispäivä: 28.4.2014 Viimeisimmät viestitI have exactly the same problem as this, brand new system, brand new installation, no sweep tone on Acoustical Setup Wizard. Can somebody help at all? is there a known fault with the GLM? Its really quite frustrating.
My set up is as follows:
Windows 7 64bit
TC electronic Twin impact sound card
2 x 8240A
GLM Network interface
