Thank you for all the years of Community discussions and activity!

The time has come for us to retire the community forums, but we will keep everything available for reading. There is a lot of valuable content written over the years, and you'll be able to access all of that. However, no new posts can be written, or old posts modified.

If you have questions, we recommend you use the Support function on the bottom right corner to contact our Customer Support directly.

Alternatively, if you wish to engage in a community discussion with other people, there are many active forums available. There is also an active, fan managed GENELEC COMMUNITY in Facebook, and many Genelec employees are active in the discussions there.

We are sorry for any possible inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope to hear from you through the other channels mentioned above.

8020A weird resonance

This is recorded near my right 8020A speaker. Volume at maybe 5% of the full power.

At around 1 minute mark of the recording, you can hear the problem.

Can this be my Creative sound card or definitely speaker broken? What is the problem? How long is guarantee on these?

Hi,

Have you tried it with other speakers? Does it sound the same then? Can you send the actual sound file (the one you are playing, not the recorded one) to me? How can you tell it's 5% of the full power?

Guarantee is two years from the date of purchase.

Unfortunately no other speakers. I have to try and find someone to lend me another pair...

8020A's are on full power and volume is Windows 8.1 x64 controlled. I have limited volume to max. 20% to 25% and at the time of recoding I was using only fraction of this already limited volume. Anyhow, at 30% the disruption is clearly hearable on those low noises.

Speakers are from 2006 or 2007 I think, so they're "old". Are there any known problems that might occur like this, over time?

Original sounfile is this "Invitation by Marc Streitenfeld" on Spotify (used Spotify): http://open.spotify.com/track/4488IiXA9QEx4bIO6wONAI

Hi,

Do both speakers produce the same noise? Is that the only song that produces the noise? How long have they produced the noise, did it happen overnight?

There are no known problems that might cause the noise. If it is caused by the speakers and not for example the sound card, there must be some failed component/part which needs to be repaired.

It looks like I was able to fix the problem by switching a cable I used from sound card to 7050. I think this problem was 3,5" cable, because now there is no more that resonance.

I am sorry for bothering Genelec with my problem totally not Genelec's fault. Should try replacing sound card and cables before blaming Genelec. ;)
