G4 use with existing 7050A sub.

I'm thinking of upgrading my 1029A + 7050A system. Currently I run TV & usb audio through a DAC and a pre-amp into the 1029A's.

Does any one know whether the G4 monitors be used with my existing 7050A subwoofer?

Or should I consider something else?

Hi,

it is not recommended to use 7050A subwoofer with G4 speakers. There are two reasons for this:

1) The subwoofer doesn't have a bass management which means that the speakers wouldn't be high pass filtered and their operating bandwidth would overlap with the subwoofer. This isn't an issue with the 1029A speakers because they have an optional high pass filter (85 Hz bass roll-off dip).

2) 7050A subwoofer is designed to work best with 1029 and 8020 size speakers. G4 has much more maximum SPL capability which means that the subwoofer would start to limit the playback level much sooner than the speakers.

Recommended subwoofer for G4 is 7060B or 7070A model. They both have the bass management and sufficient output.
