6010B + 5040 - POP with my Apogee Soundcard

I have a Macbook Pro with an Apogee Duet 2 USB sound card. Thus far I have loved that card, it's always "just worked". Previously I was using KRK RPG2 6" monitors. When I would reboot, everything was silent, worked fine. One of my previous sound cards, a Native Instruments Audio 6, would make really loud POP's when rebooting,or whenever the card initialized, so that was one thing I loved about the Apogee, silent.

Well now I bought the Genelecs, and they rock... except now my annoying pop issue is back! The pop issue is loud enough to be disturbing, and a pop in the sub is almost enough to wake the neighbors.

Is this normal with the Genelecs? I wonder if the KRK's had some sort of "pop suppression" circuit in them. I wonder if there's a way I could fix this...

Hi,

The first thing we should check is the source for the noise. Does the noise advert itself every time you boot your Mac or just during first "cold" boot when the speakers are in stand by mode and woke up?

Which revision of the subwoofer do you have? Is it also B as your 6010 speakers?

Where are you located at?

They are the B versions.

It was on cold bootup. I have since moved the Apogee Duet 2 USB port from a D-Link hub, over to my Mac directly. That seems to be much much better.

There is still the faint pop on wakeup from sleep, but that's minor and I don't mind that. It was just the loud POP! that was really bad.

Also, Apogee just released official OS X 10.9 drivers. I also ensured my firmware was up to date.

I am located in Boston.

The popping issue has been better with the newer firmware.

I wish I could disable the auto power-off mode on these things though. I'll be working quietly, the speakers go to sleep, a little system bing sound or some other computer sound, and boom! when the subwoofer kicks back on. It's really unfortunate.

Sorry for bringing up an old post but I've had the exact same issues with my 6010/5040. Really loud pop when turn on or turn off. Did you ever get around this problem?
