Would you recommend M030 or M040 for me?
Youngling Viestejä: 5 Liittymispäivä: 6.8.2013 Viimeisimmät viestitI'm going to buy M-series monitors very soon but I still haven't decided which model I should go with. My situation is this:
- Monitors will be used in untreated rooms / small city apartments - Room size at the moment is approx 5m x 4m
- Monitors will have to be placed on desk as I can't have proper stands behind the table currently
- Both monitors will be placed ~ 10cm from wall and the other monitor is also ~ 40cm from room corner
- Monitors are to be used for electronic music production (House, Dubstep, Trap etc.) so low end is important
The question therefore is that should I go for the bigger M040 regardless of lack of room treatment and proper monitor stands or would the smaller M030 placed on desktop stands provide me better clarity for producing and mixing this kind of music?
What do you say if money is not an issue here?

Padawan Viestejä: 27 Liittymispäivä: 23.9.2011 Viimeisimmät viestitIn my experience a subwoofer is far less complicated in an untreated room, so if you find yourself lacking low end you might wanna look into a good subwoofer instead. For the 80-3xHz or so range. Just my two cents.

Youngling Viestejä: 5 Liittymispäivä: 6.8.2013 Viimeisimmät viestitWhat I'm wondering is that are Genelec subwoofers like F1 compatible with M030? And when are the accessories for M-series released like the table stand in the promo video "dream big and then make it happen"?

I probably should audition both the M030 and M040 in my own room to make the conclusion. The DSP series look interesting but I'm kind of drawn to these M-series right now because of lower price and the marketing towards "bedroom producers" which is exactly me at the moment.

Re: Would you recommend M030 or M040 for me?
Padawan Viestejä: 27 Liittymispäivä: 23.9.2011 Viimeisimmät viestitThe M030 is rated for 58Hz which is great for the size but you ultimately have to test it out in your room to see if it works or not. Especially when the room is largely untreated nobody can tell you how the speaker will perform in it - and if it's good enough for you...
Right now the DSP series is the one that you have to buy if you want the best sound possible in a random environment because of their calibration features... I also agree that the drivers across the DSP series are generally too large and they should introduce smaller stuff that depends on subwoofers but that's another topic

What I'm wondering is that are Genelec subwoofers like F1 compatible with M030?
F1 shouldn't be used with M series speakers because it is designed for speakers having lower maximum SPL capability than M series speakers. In other words, the subwoofer would be the limiting factor in the system. Also it is missing the required high pass filter for the speakers.
But subwoofers like F Two (including 5051A), 7060B, 7070A, 7071A, 7073A can be used with M series speakers.
And when are the accessories for M-series released like the table stand in the promo video "dream big and then make it happen"?
Very soon!

Hi Ilkka,
What about the 7050B - can that be used with both the M030 and M040?
Thanks,
Nick

Hi,
7050B cannot be used with M030 or M040 because it is lacking the needed highpass filter for the speakers. 7050B is only compatible with 8020, 8030, 8130, 1029 and 2029 speaker models.

Youngling Viestejä: 2 Liittymispäivä: 7.9.2013 Viimeisimmät viestitTo be honest if the M030 even go a little bit lower than my KRK Rokit 5's I might be satisfied with that for now.
I find the low end of my M030 goes really down low, in my small room even 40hz is somewhat audible. Sometimes I think I forgot the subwoofer on, but I sold it long time ago.. The low end is also very controlled and punchy..

Hi,
One option would be use a short table stand like this: http://www.thomann.de/fi/km_232bk.htm with the M-series IsoPad which comes with a steel plate that can be fixed to the table stand.

I actually have those microphone table stands already. Where can I buy the M-series IsoPads? I'm from Finland, just posting here in English.

Any of our dealers should be able to order them from us if not already have them in stock: http://www.genelec.com/music-creation/jalleenmyyjat/
Order code for M030 IsoPad is 9110-030B

Our UK distributor should have that information.

Re: Would you recommend M030 or M040 for me?
Youngling Viestejä: 1 Liittymispäivä: 10.4.2014 Viimeisimmät viestitI also think about buying a M040. For my 20 sqm living room - so it is for pleasure only and not for "work". They would have to go into a bookshelf very close to the walls. Thats why I think about a little sub too. I would connect the pre-amp out of my amp to the sub and the speakers to the sub outs. I currently prefer the F-one subwoofer.
Now my question: I read in this thread that the F-One is _not_ to be used with the M-Series:
F1 shouldn't be used with M series speakers because it is designed for speakers having lower maximum SPL capability than M series speakers. In other words, the subwoofer would be the limiting factor in the system. Also it is missing the required high pass filter for the speakers.
Does the F-one really miss the high pass filter? I read in the F-one manual that it provides an integrated crossover that "clears" the lower frequencies from the sub output channels. Isn't this the high pass filter for the speakers? Or maybe I did not understand it correctly. It was only mentioned in the surround system section of the manual, not in the stereo section, which would be my setup. I prefer the F-one since my room is small, in contrary to the ears of my neighbors. I probably could live with the lower SPL of the F-one. So, given all this, is my plan to use the M040 with the F-one good or not? Or would you recommend something else?
One additional question: I listened to the G-three and G-four at a hifi dealer. I liked them very much, especially the G-four. But they are slightly too big for my shelf and the bass got very boomy when positioned close to the wall. Considering size, price and the downward bass reflex port, I believe the M040 is a better option for me. As Genelec stands for neutral sound I assume that there are no major differences in character of sound between the G- and the M-Series. It this true or not? If not, what are the differences? Is maybe the G-Series, labeled as hifi, more forgiving/less revealing as the M-Series?
I hope this are not too much questions.
Thank you very much,
Stefan,

Re: Would you recommend M030 or M040 for me?
Yoda Viestejä: 2564 Liittymispäivä: 23.3.2009 Viimeisimmät viestitF One isn't completely missing the high pass filter but it is designed so that it works properly only with small speakers with limited bass extension, such as G One and G Two. It won't work properly with larger speakers such as M040. I recommend using F Two or 7060B with M040 speakers.
It is common for all typical speakers that the bass gets heavy and boomy when placed near a massive reflective surface, such as a wall. This is due to the acoustic loading that the wall provides. Therefore we provide room eq switches which one can use to reduce the bass level through affecting the electronic filtration of the speaker. You can find more information about these dip switches from the operating manual of each speaker model.
Both G and M series share the same natural sound characteristics but of course they aren't absolutely identical. But there is nothing 'HiFi' in G series, actually it shares the same sound quality with our professional line, 8000 series, speakers.

Youngling Viestejä: 19 Liittymispäivä: 6.3.2014 Viimeisimmät viestithave you had chance to listen to the m040 vs the g4? im just about to take the plunge myself mainly 3x m040 or 8040 as lcr for my home theatre, i dont have any local dealers so cant listen before i buy. If the 8040 sounds better i would be happy to pay more for those.
Regards Daniel.
