Dear all
good afternoon, this is Stefano write from Italy. I own a couple of 1037c and a 7070A from 2008.
Now i have a monkey on my shoulder   it want a couple of 8260A

Questions.....:

1) is the DSP working for Digital and Analog signal in the same way? without connection to the pc (after mesuraments)
i would like to use my analogue pre and i have a wonderful DAC.
2) the subwoofer can be removed or is better to leave in the configuration?

Thank you for now.
Cheers.

Hi Stefano!

1) Yes you can operate them in stand-alone mode after calibration using an analog signal. The DSP settings will be saved into the speakers.

2) No subwoofer required, trust me.

Thank you Ulrich

One question regard the filter used for room correction. Now i use Dirac Live that works with filter in mixed-phase, also own IK arc2 that use minimun-phase or linear-phase philter. The difference between them is very very high, dirac wins at low hands.
The question is: which type of technology use GLM?

Is there a manual to read?

Thank you.

Regards, Stefano.

Stefano

8260 does analogue but digitizing the signal, then applying DSP and finally converts the signal into analogue and feeds it to the amps.
That means that your DAC + the digitizing at best is only degrading the signal a little.

You better look at getting a DDC with AES/EBU output.

Stello U3 is a good example of a DDC for stereo applications:
http://www.transparent-acoustic.de/products/stello/U3.html

Weiss AFI-1 is a good example of a DDC for surround applications:
http://www.weiss.ch/afi1/afi1.htm

The 7070A is not suited to work with the 8260 as it has no digital input.
You need a sub of the 72XX series for that.

I do agree with Ulrich that no sub is needed with the 8260's except perhaps for the LFE channel in 5.1.
A sub can be beneficial, but the improvement is very subtle.

Good luck

Thank you Peter for the information.

Another problem for me is that i have different digital source, how is possible to connect all to the 8260 and control the volume without using a pc with GLM? Is there a digital pre?

Thank you.

Stefano.

1) You can find a wide range of professional sound cards that will allow you input analogue as well as digital from many different sources. Example: http://www.lynxstudio.com/product_detail.asp?i=1

2) Some sound cards can have different DSP options, including volume.
I do recommend using GLM through a computer to impact sound the least.
Alternatively you can set a default maximum SPL on the 8260 and only use external DSP to reduce SPL from the there.

So there are no way to have a volume control in digital domain using a "pre" with remote control?

The pc solution is not WAF....

You attach a Griffin Power Mate to a more or less hidden HTPC and you get the coolest knob with a nice analogue feel to it.

Yes this can be a possible solution.
Peter are you using an htpc system?

I use my trusty MacBook Pro i7 quad, but I tricked it out with 16GB Ram and SSD.
Music and films are stored on an external RAID through Thunderbolt.

Everything is lightning fast, even loading 5.1 surround music in 24/192 to memory before playing.

I'm sure much less can do it ;-)

Using Stello how can i conect both speakers with 1 aes output? This is not clear for me...
Thank you

The AES/EBU type in use is carrying both channels, so you connect DDC to the first speaker and then you connect the second to the first. It known as single wire AES/EBU.

Dual wire AES/EBU uses two independent connections, Genelecs can use both.
