Help deciding between 8250A and 8260A

Hello,

I am planning on purchasing one of these two monitors, and need a little help. I come from an audiophile background, and have recently discovered the wonders of active speakers and pro monitors. I'm a convert :)

I have a 12' x 14' room and will sit about 3 feet from the monitors. While I listen to all kinds of musical genres, I do have a a large dose of bass-heavy music.

Thus my preference for the 8260A. Plus it's a 3-way.

My concern is that my room is too small and I might be better off with the 8250A even though it does not have the same extension. I understand that the room will augment the lower frequencies, but I do not want to listen to this effect. I want to get to the low 30s because the speaker produced it.

I was hoping that between the directivity of aiming these relatively larger speakers at me in close proximity, and the use of AutoCal I could use the 8260As in my small room. But if those with more experience than me think that these two factors are insufficient, and I would be better off with the 8250As, then that's fine too.

Thank you for your words of wisdom,

The 60's will outperform the 50's in all aspects, if your budget allows for the 60's don't look back you will love them. We typically get 18hz - 20hz LF extension in room from the 60's while the 50's will usually extend down to 25hz in room.

It is not the LF performance that separates the 2 models, it is the detail in the mid-range. In regards to overdriving the room don't worry about it, although the 60's are a bigger speaker, they are not that much bigger. Both will comfortably provide very high SPL in your room.

I would recommend you download the "Monitor Setup Guide" from the genelec web site, it can be found here http://www.genelec.com/catalogues-brochures/ It will give you great info on how best to setup your speakers
