Recommended XLR cabling?

Youngling Viestejä: 1 Liittymispäivä: 7.1.2013 Viimeisimmät viestit
I'm about to get my first XLR capable prepro. What (if any) are recommended or required properties for XLR cables, including both the cable and connectors for connecting a prepro from multichannel XLR outputs to a 7060B? Cable length would be 3 meters. Is cheap (as in eBay prices under/about 10 € for a 3 m cable) automatically bad?

To avoid cable clutter I'd be tempted to get a "multi-cable", i.e. a single cable with multiple connections on both ends. Should I avoid those in favour of totally separate cables for each channel?

Hi,

Genelec uses Neutrik connectors for their high quality, solid connection and mechanical durability. I have no personal experience with cheap eBay cables but for sure they are not automatically bad.

Multi-cable will work just as fine but how are you planning to route it since your speakers are placed all around the room?

Hi,  I'll continue this question.  My need was to have 2 x 2m meter XLR-cabling between F2 subwoofer and G3s. I ordered a good quality (RF protected) Neutrik connectors and cables. I'll solder those myself.  Cordial has different cable thicknesses 0.22, 0.35, 0.50 and 0.75 mm2.  Which kind of cabling customers are preferring in studios? Because the price difference is minimal, I went to 0.75 mm2.  At the moment I have a little bit too short 1.5m and 0.22 mm2 (factory made).

Mogami is a bit better but Cordial is totally good enough, especially with short runs like yours.
Choose the thickest gauge you can get away with.
And yes to Neutrik connectors,
I'm using Neutrik speakon now on unrelated electrical projects because cheap chinese connectors take longer to assemble.
And  I'd only start messing with multicore for 4-8 channels, in your case I'd combine two cables with 2-3 strips of velcro.

Thanks! Actually made them today. 0.75 mm2 is a little bit too thick to this connector (even when spec allows it), but I could solder them. Not nice looking but full electrical connectivity achieved.
