Speaker for Djing and Recording

Youngling Viestejä: 6 Liittymispäivä: 15.4.2013 Viimeisimmät viestit
Dear all,

I am going to build my own studio in the basement of our new house.
After working as a DJ for many years, I wanna try to start with my own productions now.
I am looking for some good speakers and of course was looking for Genelec as well.
The only problem I have: Which series is the best, I can run for my DJ work/mixing as well as for future production work?

Thanks!

Hi,

There is a wide range of Genelec monitors suitable for your application. I could for example recommend 8040A which is one of our most successful models: http://www.genelec.com/products/8040a/ If you require higher SPL and more LF extension, then look at 8050A or our bigger 3-way monitors.

DSP range of speakers offer the same basic acoustic properties but on top of that enable an AutoCal system which will help the system to adapt to your room much more accurately than any analogue system can.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Yes, I had a look on the 8040 series as well. I have seen a lot of comments where people saying that the 8040 series is the best for a home studio due to the 6.5" inch woofer.
What about the new M030 or M040 series or even more the G Three or G Four series?!? Would that work as well? The G series seems to be more for typical home audio applications such as TV or "music listening". But the M series is given for "music creation", which is similar to the 8000 series from my point of view. Is it only about the "lower" quality and price?

Hi,

Sonically the 8000 and G series are identical. Please see this message for a list of differences: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=856&p=2961#p2913

M series is not yet in production but it would also be a very good option. Sonically it will be very close to 8000 series but outlook and enclosure material are very much different.

Many thanks Ilkka, I think that's a clear message to me now.
Of course, I will check the 8030 and also 8040 series and if possible the G series.
However, I have seen a review, where somebody has categorized the 8030 more for home studios up to 15 qm while the 8040 is up to 40 qm. Is that also something you would recommend!? Again, I will definitely try to test them at my distributor at the weekend, but just to have some kind of range. Thanks!!!

Hi,

There isn't any strict rules for room size, it's usually more about the required SPL and listening distance. Difference between the 8030 and 8040 is 5 dB which is a noticeable but not a night and day difference. I would definitely recommend testing them at your local distributor/dealer.

Still not decided yet, but the 8040's are favorite right now. Just in case: Is it worth to go for an older pair of the 1031A series. There are some really nice offers in the marketplace out there. Some of them in good conditions are at half the price compare to the new 8040's, but I am not sure about the technical advantages up from today.
