8030 monitors stored in basement for one year... still good?

Hi Genelec,

I'm considering buying a few genelec 8030A monitors that were used in a busy bar for one year as a PA system. They were attached to the wall close to the ceiling. Probably worked in full blast during live concerts and for playing semi-loud music and I don't even know if they were turned off regularly... People used to smoke in the bar as well. So lets suppose they had an extremely rough year of use.

After the bar closed for business the monitors were stored in a basement for another year. They were pretty dusty when the guy brought them up from the basement and the place looked a bit humid and cold. :?

So my questions are: (Even though they seem to work) Could moisture, dust (from storage), and cigar smoke have affected the performance and durability of the speakers? If they were somehow affected by humidity could they be cleaned up at a reasonable price? Also they are missing the rubber iso pods, is it possible to buy that part alone and how much would it cost (approximately)? (in Spain or whatever country)

I'm using the monitors for post production work in video projects and for music composition on my small home studio. I have quite a small room so I could consider buying new 8020b's instead of these used 8030a's... I just don't want to end up spending a lot of money in future repairs and maintenance (even though they are literally build like a tank! And perhaps the 8020's would be more than enough for my needs...) 8-)

I really appreciate the support. 8-) I'm really keen in getting some Genelecs to start working, and sorry for all the questions! Cheers

Hi,

It is quite impossible to say whether the speakers have been damaged in any way, but I would definitely recommend that they are checked by our professional service before any further use. Please contact your local distributor for further information. You can also ask them about the missing Iso-Pods.
