Merging stereo channels in DSP?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here and i'm as new to DSP than i'm to this forum.... but here's what i had in mind:

I'm an electronic music producer and i am half deaf, meaning that i haven't heard anything with my right ear since i was born. I've got a stereo setup of 8000 series analogs with a sub right now but i've been interested in the DSP series lately (especially 8240 & 8250). Being unable to hear with my other ear i have come to the conclusion that i don't need a real "physical" stereo image. I am happy with the result of having L&R CHANNELS MERGED TO ONE speaker/headphone. This is easy to achieve for analog signal with resistors and cables or by software in some occasions, but how does one do it with DSP? I was planning to purchase a SINGLE DSP speaker, but still haven't found the answer to this one.. is it possible? how? what way? software/hardware?

Thanks in advance ;)

The easiest way would be to use the AES/EBU input of the 82XX speaker and in the GLM software select both channels to be played back through the speaker.

I suggest you download GLM and have a play with it in demo mode. I don't know how you could do it neatly with an analogue signal.

Thanks Steve,

I downloaded the GLM and got it running in demo mode but I couldn't solve this with it.. In the loudspeaker's input settings you can select multiple channels to be reproduced only with a subwoofer but not with a single monitor... So the 82XX speaker is built so that you can't reproduce more than one channel with it?

I am starting to think that the only way i can do this appropriate is from the settings of the audio interface or my DAW :?

Hi Naata,

Here are some quick screen shots i have just done. You must first run System setup Wizard, select 1 speaker only no sub, then choose manual cabling wizard. Choose AES/EBU, then Single Wire Mode.

You will then see this screen..

Then this..

Sorry for the crappy images, i have resized in photobucket and they have not refreshed yet!

Once you have finished the setup, here is the system Set Up Editor Screen from within GLM

As you can see the 1 speaker is set to reproduce channel 1A and 1B.

Play around a little more, the software is very intuitive. Good luck.

Yey! Thanks again!

I realised that I had downloaded the GLM.SE and you can't seem to do that in it (at least in demo mode). Also the speakers were set to 8130A by default...

I now had the full GLM installed in demo mode and it worked out just as you showed. So thank you, this solved my problem here :)
