8250 in white

This is my first post. I'm interested in purchasing a set of 8250's for use in my home theater.

Is the 8250 available in white?

Thanks very much and I apologize for such a mundane first post.

I have another question. I was planning on running analoginputs to my 8250's and I read in the manual a warning to not overdrive the AD converters in the monitors. I don't understand this statement.

The inputs remain at a constant low line level regardless of SPL, how can one overdrive the AD converter?

Maybe I misunderstand this concept.

Thanks,

LasVegas

Hello,

The 8250A's are available in white.

Even though it is a line level signal, it still varies in level (voltage). The maximum signal level 8250A accepts is +7 dBu.

Thanks Ilkka,

So basically the monitors won't reach max spl with an analog input?

Will using the analog input degrade the sound of the monitors in any way?

Thanks very much,

LasVegas

No, the monitors will reach max spl with an analog signal. If we assume that the input sensitivity is set to the maximum, the speakers needs needs -6 dBu signal for 100 dB SPL (1 meter). So with +7 dBu the theoretical output is 113 dB. This is higher than the actual maximum SPL of the speaker.

If you compare the analog signal path to the digital, the analog signal will go through one extra A/D conversion, other than that they have identical paths. Some people can hear this extra conversion but it's not yet clear which one they actually prefer. :)

What if I went completely digital, could I use this http://www.hosatech.com/product/339824/CDL-313/_/Digital_Audio_Interface%2C_SPDIF_Coax_to_AESEBU to convert my spdif outputs to aes ebu?

If this would work it would maintain the signal in the digital domain, which would be ideal.

Thanks,

Yes, digital signal path does have some benefits. You can find S/PDIF to AES/EBU converters from many manufacturers, for example Neutrik: http://www.neutrik.com/en/accessories/a ... nsformers/

Would an active or passive transformer be better?

To my understanding a passive transformer will work just fine.

Thanks Ilkka,

You're the best. I really appreciate the help and I have a better understanding of Genelec technology.

Thanks again,

Does the 8200 series have built-in jitter management or do I need to choose a converter that includes jitter control?

Thanks again,

Hi,

No need to have a jitter control in the converter, the speaker has a very sophisticated jitter management.

For short runs, is it possible to go straight from SPDIF to XLR AES/EBU?

Yes, usually distances shorter than 1-2 meters work just ok.
