New Genelec 5.1 system questions!

Hello to all in the Genelec community!

I am about to set up a 8020B/7050B system for 5.1 mixing.

My questions are about the setup/routing of the monitors. Please can you let me know if the following is correct - the 7050B seems to have two roles 1) the low frequency extension of each of the main speakers (L, C, R, Ls, and Rs) and 2) the LFE channel itself. Is that right?

From working in dubbing theatres, I found it strange that information would be going to the sub without me choosing to pan it there, particularly for the Ls and Rs channels, but I suppose the low frequencies are not that directional anyway?..

Also, does the 'Subwoofer level control' (+12 to -6 dBu) affect the levels going on to the main speakers, or is this just for controlling the level of the sub relative to the main speakers?

Last question! - The 6 channels of audio will be the audio will be coming from a digi002 rack. If the volume controls for all the main speakers should be set to full all the time, what is the best way to control the overal monitor level? Should I just turn down my master track in Pro Tools?

Many thanks for your help,

Steve

Correct!

It is very common to use small surround/back speakers in movie theatres / home theatres which can't handle low frequency information. Usually theatres use 1 - 2 subwoofers in the front part of the room where low frequency content from the surround / back channels is re-routed. It works just fine because, as you said, low frequencies are not that directional.

Also, does the 'Subwoofer level control' (+12 to -6 dBu) affect the levels going on to the main speakers, or is this just for controlling the level of the sub relative to the main speakers?

Just for controlling the level of the sub. Main speakers have their own input sensitivity controls.

Last question! - The 6 channels of audio will be the audio will be coming from a digi002 rack. If the volume controls for all the main speakers should be set to full all the time, what is the best way to control the overal monitor level? Should I just turn down my master track in Pro Tools?

Many thanks for your help,

I don't know Pro Tolls at all, but for sure it's not convenient to adjust the volume from the speakers. A single master volume is preferred.
