6010+5040 or 8030+5040

Hello, I wanna get a pair of genelecs for my room. So I've got a very basic question, which would be the best choice, 6010 with the 5040 sub or 8030 with the 5040 sub? The thing is that I want a larger and more powerful set than the 6010 but still with a sub.. I cant get the 7050 sub, they're way too expensive (I'm a student, no income).

I'm gonna use them mainly for mixing etc.

So what would be the smarter choice? Which would give me the better sound(in my relatively small/small-medium sized room)?

edit: I simply think that the 70xx series subs are too expensive for me, because I also have to get an audio interface (tc electronic impact twin(does that sound good?)

edit2: I could also go with the 8020 if that would be better.. instead of 8030 I mean.

Regards,
David

Hello,

For sure 8030A will give better sound quality than 6010A. The 5040A is not the best subwoofer for it but it will work. Problems occur if you want to listen at very loud levels, then the maximum SPL capability of the 5040A will not match SPL of 8030A, meaning the subwoofer will start to limit its output while 8030A would still play louder.

8020B or 8030A - if you have enough money for 8030A, definitely go for it.

Thank you for answering my questions! I have a follow-up question now.. You mentioned that the sub levels will not match the 8030 volume levels at high volume.. What kind of volume levels are we speaking of? I'm not really planning to have a party or anything with them, I just want to sit in my room, speakers like 40-80cm from my head, mixing. Can the sub break if it limits for too long, or does it start to distort and stuff?

and if I give you another choice, what would you pick?

8020 + 7050 or 8030 + 5040 ?

I'm really sorry for all the questions, I really just wanna make sure I do the right decision as I'm pretty much spending all my money and I don't have a job

Hey, no problem at all! :)

Specified maximum output levels of the 5040A is at least 98 dB, so we are talking about party or at least close to party levels. The subwoofer doesn't hurt itself if played too loud, it will only start to limit its output with some added distortion and compression.

I would even suggest trying the 8030A on it's own! It's a pretty capable speaker even without a subwoofer, but of course you can always add it later if needed.
