8020b connect to non-Genelec sub (problem)

I recently purchased 2 Genelec 8020b monitors. I cannot connect them directly to an M-Audio subwoofer (SBX10) without generating significant background noise/buzz/hiss through the 8020b's - even with the subwoofer bypass feature on. Are the Genelec 8020bs incompatible with direct connection to these non-Genelec subwoofers? I haven't had this problem connecting other brand monitors/pa's to the M-Audio subwoofer. Another posting in the forum suggests that while far from optimal 8020s can at least be connected to non-Genelec subs. The connection is via the sub's TRS out (TRS to XLR on the 8020b's). Thanks very much.

I have also tried connecting the 8020b's to the sub with a new XLR cable and verified that the pins were correct - same problem - substantial background hum. Please advise.

Problem solved after a day of troubleshooting. Interference was from the unbalanced line into the subwoofer. Lesson: balanced outputs from the sub to the 8020b's do not correct interference from unbalanced cables introduced "upstream" of the sub - even if this is not audible on other gear/monitors.

Hi,

I am happy that you were able to sort the issue by yourself! :) Balanced connections are usually the way to go if you want a noise free system.
