GLM 1.3.1 Leopard / Powermate contention

I've not upgraded to the latest version of GLM, but I've noticed that when I have GLM loaded it *always* captures input from the Powermate knob, regardless of whether GLM is the foreground application or not....

This might appear to be ok, but the problem is that I use the Powermate with Final Cut Pro too.

If I have GLM loaded, then *all* it can do is provide input to GLM.

Is there a way to set things up that GLM only accepts/intercepts Powermate input when GLM is the foreground application, please?

(To really appreciate the problem, imagine, say, that Photoshop capture all mouse input regardless of whether it was the foreground application -- the mouse would be useless when Photoshop was loaded if it the mouse could only drive one application when that application was loaded -- then you see the problem).

Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,

I hear you! GLM is listening the Powermate all the time because some users like this. But we understand it might not be preferred by all. We will add an option "Use Powermate only when GLM is active" to future GLM releases!

Thanks, Illkka.
I forgot to mention that I thought a workaround might be that I could disable the Powermate from within GLM -- but then the problem is that the Powermate is *completely* disabled, even for Final Cut Pro.

So, the best I can come up with is to have to load, adjust, save, and quit GLM every time I need to change the levels on the speakers.

In case anyone wonders why this is an issue, I usually mix down in FCP to -6dbFS, but fairly frequently get sent recordings mixed to 0dbFS. When I play these when the speakers are set for -6dbFS I keep getting more bits of speaker cone in my hair.

So, I'm left whimpering, hopefully persuasively, that GLM can be changed *soon* to play nice with other software that I typically have running (e.g. CatDV, Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro...)

Andy
