8020 & 5040 bass rollof question

Youngling Viestejä: 2 Liittymispäivä: 15.1.2011 Viimeisimmät viestit
Hi,
I just bought 2 8020As second hand and ordered a new 5040A, due in a couple of days.

The 5040a online manual states then when using the 5040A with 8020As, the bass roll-off switch on the 8020 should be switched OFF. On the other hand, the 8020A manual states that when using a subwoofer, the bass roll-off switch should be switched ON. So I'm a bit confused. Can anyone tell me what to do with the switch and why?

Thanks!
Maarten

i'm guessing the reason is that the 7050 sub that's made for 8020 requires the switch to be on as it doesn't do any crossover management, while every other sub including 5040, does, so therefore it should be off when using 5040 with 8020

Hello Maarten,

Jonathan is correct, the 5040A manual overrules the 8020A manual in this case. :)

Also notice that you need to lower the level of the 8020A's because their input sensitivity is 10 dB higher than the one of the 5040A. A correct setting will be when the gain knobs in the front are pointing straight up. Then set the subwoofer level according to your taste. Also be extra careful with the phase setting setup since the 8020A will usually require a different phase setting compared to the 6010A. If 0 degrees is good with the 6010A, 180 degrees is good with the 8020A (typical situation when speakers and subwoofer are placed close to each other).
