Hi :)

I am in the progress of buying a speaker for my home. I will only use it to listen to music, from r&b to rap, from classic to opera, from emo-music to rock and everything in between, besides techno (im not into that kind of music :))

I have decided that it must be a Genelec because of the reviews I have read in different websites.

I am either going to buy the speaker-set a pair of Genelec 6010A with the corresponding subwoofer 5040A
6010A

OR

the speaker-set a pair of Genelec 8020B with the corresponding subwoofer 7050B
8020B

+
7050B

I Am only going to use it to listen to music, no editing or mixing or anything like that ever. Only to listen to music, no movie or game or anything.

I have a side-question I hope you can help me with.

Reading all those opinions in different forums, I came open something I think sounds weird for a noob like me. That is... how can a speaker/monitor be really good for mixing/editing BUT NOT good for listening to music in general?

I hope you can help me with these questions. Thank you very much in forward.

Best regards,

avDK

Hi,

Looking at your other thread, it looks like you made your decision already, but I will answer in any case. The decision is actually pretty easy, if you have the budged, definitely go for the bigger 8020/7050 system. It will give you better sound quality, more SPL etc., and also is a better investment in the long run because you don't have the urge to upgrade so quickly. If you are on a budget, then the smaller 6010/5040 will be perfect for you. As way say, it's the first step to professional audio!

Usually we hear these kind of comments from people who don't like accurate sound reproduction but want something that doesn't sound truthful instead. Of course it's true that our monitors are pretty brutal when it comes to separating good mixes/records from the bad ones, but on the other hand the good ones sound even better with Genelecs!

Hi :) Thanks for your reply.

Yes, at the last minute when I was buying the 8020 I thought... why not go bigger? I dont have room for larger then the 8240a or I was really tempted by the 8260a's.

Thats what made me go Genelec. I rather want earnest monitor that sonds the way the producer intended the music to sound like, then some fake speakers.

I can't wait to recieve them. :)
