Strange noise with 1029a on 80hz

Hello!
I'm an happy owner of a pair of 1029a.
Recently I've noticed a strange noise (like a breath) when I play a bass sound (specially a pure sine waveform) around 80Hz (between D1-D#1-E1 on a pianoroll).
It's a common thing? Am I mad :) ? I've broken my monitors (I can hear mostly on the right channel)?

Thanks, Marco.

Hi Marco,

Sounds like port chuffing which is the sound of the air rushing through the reflex ports. You can only hear it at around the tuning frequency of the cabinet which is quite close to 80 Hz. It's most obvious with pure sine waves, as you said. So it is not a fault on the speakers. Remember that the 1029A is a really small monitor so you shouldn't expect very loud SPL at low/bass frequencies. Bigger model is the cure for this "problem". :)

Thanks a lot Ilkka for your fast and accurate answer.
I was already planning to cure myself with a pair of 8040a (or 1031a if I can find here in Italy).
Thanks again, Marco.
