hi guys

i have a pair of 8040's , amazing monitors I love them, use it every day, but today I turn them on and just one of them start... the other is dead.. the light in the front wont light up... i thought it might be the power cable, change it and no luck... i move the on/off switch many times and nothing...

i have always use them with a grounded power conection, the back of the speakers are well ventilated, I dont even use it on too loud leves cause i work in home.

is there anything i can do to fix the dead one... i'm from Chile, Southamerica, so i think there are no official technical service here

i'm so sad man... i love this speakers and i work so hard for them :(

thanks =)

I mail them and I'm waiting for the answer

but the other question i have is that i'm out of the warranty time
so can I open the monitor myself to check if is the fuse? I praying that just the fuse was dead and the amp was ok..

and I don't know if i must open the speaker for myself ... i mean if I'm out of the warranty time it shouldn't be a problem that i open the monitor and check it or not?

the technical service will be paid to fix the monitor anyway (because I'm out of warranty)

what do you recommend? ( i have repair equipment previously)

thanks ;)

Hi,

Only a qualified Genelec service technician should open the speaker. Please do not try to open the speaker yourself. If it turns out to be the fuse, the service won't be expensive.

I'm in Thailand and accidentally plugged in my 8040a (120v, bought in USA) into a 220v slot today. It had power for 1 sec, then shut off. I should have checked. Question is, should I expect that only a fuse replacement is necessary, or does this kind of mistake typically mean replacing much more? I just opened them, so they're brand new. Will warranty repair cover this kind of fault?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear about your accident. Usually only a fuse replacement is needed. Warranty doesn't cover this kind of accident because it is not a manufacturing defect or similar.

I WANT to open my speakers. I bought them 2006. So the warranty should be obsolete by now?

The reason is that i want to re-paint them because of some scratches.

HOW do i open them after i remove all the screws? It seems stuck in some way.

I will not pay alot of money just so someone can open them for me :)

Great speakers by the way. It's the 8020a.
