Alternating use of analog and digital inputs

Youngling Viestejä: 14 Liittymispäivä: 30.6.2009 Viimeisimmät viestit
Hi,

because I have an analog as well as a digital sound source, I would like to use both of the loudspeaker inputs. Now the problem is: The analog input is not reproduced if the loudspeaker is connected to the GLM network, even if there is no signal at the digital input. But I need GLM to control the volume when using the digital input, and of course I do not want to fiddle about (dis)connecting network cables when switching from the analog to the digital source or vice versa.

What am I doing wrong? Are there configuration options in GLM which I have overlooked?

Hello,

Thanks for your post. Please find a reply below from R&D Manager, Aki Mäkivirta.

The GLM software works perfectly well with analog inputs. All you need to do is to make a system setup file for the analog input. Make another system setup file for the digital input. Select the system setup file using "File | Open..." and that switches you between the inputs.

To automate things even more, use GLM AutoLink software to quickly load the system setups using the keyboard shortcuts of your choice.

There is absolutely no need to fiddle with any cables. All cables can be connected at all times.

Best regards,

Thanks for your answer. I already created two setup files Analog.glm and Digital.glm. However, even when I load Analog.glm, I cannot hear the analog inputs, even if there is no digital signal, as long as the loudspeakers are connected to the GLM network. When I power down the speakers, disconnect them from the GLM network, and power up again, then I hear the analog signal.

Maybe something is wrong with my Analog.glm? Screenshots are attached (made while GLM was disconnected from the speakers).

Hi,

I just want to clarify that my impression was wrong. The analog signal *is* reproduced by the speakers. I just have to turn up the GLM volume up to -20 or better -10 db to hear it, while -40 db is enough when the digital inputs are used.

So everything is ok and both inputs can be used alternately when the volume is adjusted accordingly.
