8030A pair & 7050B pair

Hi,

I Have pair of 8030A in my home studio and I'm thinking of getting one 7050B for the low ends. I think that setup will serve me well for years since I don't have the need for extreme volumes. But for the curiosity I'd like to hear your opinion of the following.

I have understood that 7060 is recommended for higher volumes (and 5.1 setups), and of course you get also more low end with it, but but what would be pros and cons if you think stereo monitoring system with:
a) pair of 8030 and two 7050's
b) pair of 8030 and one 7060

Hello,

Thanks for your post. Some comments about your setup proposals:

a) Pair of 8030A and two 7050B's
- 2x 8030A and one 7050B create a balanced system in terms of SPL handling and headroom.
- 2x 7050B will not give you a lower LF cut-off (@ 25 Hz). You will only get more SPL, and since the system is balanced with one single 7050B, you will need to reduce the level of both 7050B's to have a properly level calibrated system! So, you add one more sub (and pay for it) and then reduce the level to a level which can be provided by a single 7050B!
- Also, the 7050B cannot be daisy-chained, there is no Sum Out on this product. So, to connect 2x 7050B together is not very practical if you want to have proper control on the phase at crossover between the main speakers and the subwoofers.

b) Pair of 8030A and one 7060B
- You have plenty of SPL. You will need to reduce the level to have a properly level calibrated system matching the 2x 8030A.
- The LF cut-off is 19 Hz (@ -3 dB)
- You have the flexibility to add more main speakers in the future (add 3x 8030A) and still retain a perfectly balanced system in both SPL handling and headroom.

Hope this is useful.
Best regards,

Hi,

Thank you for the very clarifying answer about using two subs.
I'd still have one question reqarding the 7050B.

I have balanced stereo outs in my mixer for the monitors, does it make any difference if signal goes to sub thru the 8030's vs. if the signal goes to main speaker thru sub? If I have understood correctly, 7050B outs don't filter the signal so in any case bass roll off needs to be adjusted in 8030? And I guess the output in 8030 don't filter anything either so it can be used (also according to manual) as a sub output? Which way is recommended?

Hello!

The following FAQ answers all of your questions, I hope. Basically both setups are perfectly fine. The choice is yours!
