Genelec speaker amplifiers

About 15 years ago one friend told me that the power stages in active Genelec loudspeakers are Class AB quasi complementary voltage followers made of bipolar transistors. :geek: Is that correct?

How is it in modern Genelec models? I just want to know if that is misinformation or truth.

Hello,

Thanks for your post.

That was true for some channels of some amplifiers many years ago (first S30 and 1022A models). It dates back to amplifier designs made when both NPN and PNP transistors were not easily available at the same price and performance.

Nowadays, all Genelec models feature Class AB complementary bipolar transistor output stages.

And yes, the output stages are just voltage followers. All the voltage gain comes from earlier stages and the power transistors and their drivers only provide current gain.

Hope this is helpful.
Best regards,

I hope you don't mind if I ask further. Are the transistors configured as emitter followers (often called Darlingtons) or complementary feedback pair (also known as Sziklai) ? :geek:
