Single wire vs double wire with 82xx/72xx

Hi there,

I was wondering whether there are any real-world advantages to using double wire AES instead of single wire with the 82xx/72xx system when the source audio is predominantly 44.1 kHz (or 48 kHz)?

And does it have an effect at the AutoCal calibration stage?

Cheers,

Christian

Dual-wire AES/EBU was invented when the AES/EBU driver chips were too slow to drive the AES/EBU data at sufficiently high clock rate. This is no longer the case. Dual-wire AES/EBU offers no advantage in terms of audio quality compared to single-wire AES/EBU. It is worth noting that dual-wire is only needed for dual-speed or quad-speed AES/EBU data (sample rates 96 kHz and 192 kHz). Dual-wire is not needed for single-speed (44.1 or 48 kHz). In fact, dual-wire cannot be used for single-speed AES/EBU audio data. The AES/EBU audio cabling scheme (single- or dual-wire) does not have any effect on AutoCal calibration process.
