Hello,

Thanks for your post and question. The two products you are referring to are different in many aspects: physical size, drivers, amplifier power, SPL capacity, LF extension, etc.

The analog 8020B model features a 4" bass driver, 3/4"tweeter and 2 x 20 W of amplification power. A pair of 8020B can produce a peak output of 105 dB at 1 m with music material.

The DSP 8240A model features a 6.5" bass driver, 3/4"tweeter and 2 x 90 W of amplification power. A pair of 8240A can produce a peak output of 115 dB at 1 m with music material.

Both models are part of the 8000/8200 series and they share the same all-aluminum MDE cabinet construction, advanced DCW waveguide and high efficiency rear reflex port technologies. The natural sound reproduction characteristic is very consistent across the entire 8000/8200 series range.

Now, the proprietary GLM™ and AutoCal™ technologies of Genelec DSP Systems greatly expand the loudspeaker alignment toolset to reach greater monitoring accuracy and flexibility. For further infos about Genelec DSP technologies, see the following links:

For further spec comparison, you could use the 'compare with' pull down menu available in the right hand side column of every product page.

Hope this is helpful.

Hello,

Thanks for your comment. Concerning the differences between 8040A and 8240A, the enclosure design and material, internal acoustic design, power amplifier technology, radiation and driver characteristics are the same in the 8000 Series monitors and 8200 Series monitors.

When used in the same way, the sound quality of the 8200 Series is almost identical to that of the 8000 Series. The differences are in the steepness of the crossover filters and the slightly tighter on-axis response.

When using the GLM control network and AutoCal, the loudspeaker can be integrated into the room with greater precision and the differences may be significant. The same is true of the 7000 Series subwoofers and 7200 DSP subwoofers.

You can find further infos about our DSP systems design in the following FAQ section:

Does that mean I can use a Genelec 7260A with my 8040A?

No... 7260's only accept AES/EBU inputs, your 8040's only accept analog.
