How to manage multiple GLM setups from a single computer

Hi,

I currently have one PC with a RME HSDPe AES interface, and 2.1 system (2 x 8330 + 1 x 7350) connected via AES.

I am managing them via a GLM 2.0 kit connected via USB. I am doing volume control via the hardwired wheel control.

I plan to add a a 5.1 system to the same PC, for use in a different listening position, and i would like to understand how i will manage them at that moment.

Using the AES card and windows control i will be able to switch between the 2.1 system and the 5.1 system, as it uses virtual sound cards and i can switch between them so the audio will get routed to the 2.1 system or the 5.1 system.

What i do not understand is how GLM and volume control will work with two connected systems:

- do i need to buy a second GLM kit for the 5.1 system?

- will i need to run two instances of the GLM software?

- can i control one system with wired volume control (as i am at the desk) and the second with wireless volume control?

- could i control them independently with separate wireless volume controls?

Thanks!

Hi,

You can add up to 30 loudspeakers and subwoofers into a single GLM network. You will control them all through a single GLM kit and sofware instance.  You simply create two different setups, one for 2.1 system and another for 5.1 system. Only single volume controller can be connected to the GLM at a time. The other setup will be muted if you are playing the other. GLM will treat them as two separate systems, all the controls are enabled for a single system at a time.

Hi Ilkka,

Thank you for the reply. Sorry for the late followup but i did not get an email notification about the reply.

I wanted to ask if it is possible to automate the switch between the two systems in any way in GLM?

Is there anyway to trigger the switch in GLM via a script or a remote or an app?

I'd like to automate switching between the two setups while also invoking other actions, such as switching the main sound output from the AES ports feeding the 2.1 setup to the AES ports feeding the 5.1 setup.

Best regards,

Alexandru Tudose.

Hi,

We will implement quick key command for group switching in the next GLM version.

Ctrl+1 for example will select group number one, Ctrl+2 will select group number two and so on.

The GLM window needs to be the active one during the command.
